Here is a more detailed description of MGT’s trip to Uganda. There are lots of pictures at the end:
Here’s a message to all of you who so faithfully prayed for us during this Uganda mission trip. We would not have made it without you. This was the first time for most of the people on the team as well as for the pastor and wife in Uganda. God surely blessed our week there.
God gave us many open doors to minister to the community. We were able to go into several schools and a prison. We had a short ½ day VBS, an outdoor rally, 2 church services, a 2 full day medical clinic, a women’s health seminar and several other opportunities to participate in praise, worship, and drama. Our message was simple – John 3:16. Many, many people came to know the Lord Jesus Christ and others were brought back into fellowship with Him.
The “Friends of Christ Assembly” church of Uganda gave us a most warm welcome and we felt immediately at home. Many of them took the week off and stayed with us throughout the mission. Thus they were fully involved in all areas of ministry. In the medical clinic they did the registration. All three nurses live in Uganda and volunteered their time. They also serve in the church. There were three medical providers and two of them were from Uganda. Olga Waters was the other and she headed up this portion of the mission. One doctor lived a couple of hours away but came by bus to help out. Another was a medical student who volunteered one day with us. The church leadership participated in the counseling and prayer in the spiritual clinic (also a portion of the medical clinic). And the church praise singers went with our singers to the schools and prison. It was such a blessing to watch brothers and sisters from Uganda and from New York working together on this mission!
The team learned of the vision that Pastor George and Gillian have been given for the land that they have. This includes a school, church home, and clinic for the future. Having this mission week just increased their faith that God will bring this to past. We walked over the land and prayed with them to this end.
We took our last day to go to the Nile River. This was a much needed time of rest and relaxation. It was beautiful! After coming back to the tent (church) we met with students and parents who are on the MGT school fund. This fund provides money necessary for the children to go to school. We then had a very nice meal at the Kasirye’s home.
To end our trip we went to a place called prayer mountain before going to the airport on Saturday. Uganda is now known as a Christian nation and the gospel can be preached freely. However, it was not so long ago when Christians were brutally murdered for their faith. Christians from all backgrounds used to run to the jungles and bushes and cry out to God. This was one of those places. When the persecution stopped a man bought land on this mountain and dedicated it to prayer. One can see and hear people praying from all over the mountain. It was such a wonderful time! The pastors took time to pray over each one of the team members before sending us off back toNew York City.
One of the things that God allowed me to do and that I personally enjoyed the most was to go to one of the homes in the slums of Kalerwe and speak to a group of women with AIDS / HIV. The conditions were horrendous in this (approx) 8’ x 10’ room with about 15 - 20 women inside and the stench was overwhelming at first. Many more women were outside. God gave me a burden for these women, many of whom are not yet believers. I hope to go back to speak to them again some day.
We were able to arrange transportation to take nearly 50 of them to the medical clinic for illnesses other than AIDS and arrange food for them. On another day we arranged transportation and food for many of them to see our program and to attend our women’s health seminar.
I was told afterwards that the fact that I went into their home somehow surprised them and in turn made them more open to what we were offering them and to listening to the gospel of Christ. They heard the gospel and many women responded. This reminded me of when Jesus reached out to the lepers. We are now Jesus’ hands. Praise Him!
Many of you might have heard by now that I was robbed my first day there. That was just a small time thug. Very little lost and just a few scratches. No harm done. This was the work of our enemy sent to distract us from our mission. God wins! Thank you for your prayers.
Also many of you heard of Pastor Kasirye’s injuries he received two weeks prior to us going from a gas explosion in his stove. These injuries, especially on one leg, were very severe! The doctors treated him in the medical clinic and he has now had some surgery. He thanks you for your prayers. Please continue to pray.
There is so much more that I could say but I will end here. There are some pictures below. Thank you so much for your prayers and support! God is good!
